Happy 35th Birthday Gosport CP
Hip Hip Hooray, Gosport CP is 35 today!

An amazing achievement of 35 years of cat rescue by Gosport Cats Protection was celebrated at a special afternoon on 8 July 2017. The Gosport CP branch was founded in July 1982 by mother and daughter, Hazel and Debbie Alexander. From modest beginnings with £200, a cat trap and one foster pen, the local charity has grown to encompass a wide range of volunteers carrying out a host of activities with the same objective to improve cat welfare and make a practical difference to cats in the local area. Debbie remains an active volunteer being a fosterer, fundraiser and the branch treasurer.

The 35th birthday tea party was held at the Parish Centre in Alverstoke for around eighty volunteers and supporters. The event celebrated the dedication and belief of everyone involved with Gosport CP from the early days in 1982 through to the present that together we can make things better for cats and their owners. Indeed our newest volunteer of just 6 days, Heather Wood, was welcomed to the party and everyone enjoyed a happy, friendly afternoon full of cat chat!

The Mayor of Gosport, Cllr Linda Batty, accompanied by her husband, attended the event and alongside co-ordinator Christine Scott-Reid presented volunteers with 15, 20 and 25 years long service awards of beautiful cat statues. Volunteers unable to receive their awards at the party including super fundraisers Mollie & David Pearson will be given their statues on return from holiday.

All the guests enjoyed a delicious buffet made and provided by Toni and Bev, with Toni receiving her 25 year volunteering award from the Mayor. The birthday cake was a masterpiece being decorated with sugar paste cats and bunting. Refreshments were served by volunteers Amanda and Rob and the tables decorated with floral arrangements made by Carole. Musical entertainment was provided by the Brassy Ladies ensemble.

Thank you to everyone who supported, attended and helped to make the birthday tea party such a happy and successful event. Thank you also for the kind donations at the party which helps Gosport CP continue its work for cats and kittens in need.
